Research conducted by the National Literacy Trust found that almost 1 in 5 young children between ages five and eight do not have their own book at home. It has also been noted that children who read at home are not only six times more likely to then be able to read above their expected level, but that reading is also linked to lots of great benefits, such as more complex vocabulary, greater emotional depth and further successes.
So, The National Literacy Trust and Good Housekeeping have joined forces to pull together a list of the Top 50 Books Every Child Should Read. The books are suitable for toddlers right up to teenagers and young adults. In our book packs, we have focussed on EYFS to KS2, so that they are primary school appropriate.
