Description

Bringing Literacy to Life in EYFS

Overview:

Creating an effective EYFS curriculum will be at the heart of the training and this will be examined in depth. This innovative training will give EYFS teachers a wealth of ideas about how to develop the love of books, reading and writing with their children.

The day will begin by examining the impact of the environment on learning. Time will be spent developing how to enhance the different areas of provision to ensure that they are engaging to all pupils. The power of story-telling will be explored and teachers will have the opportunity to work with different props and resources to help develop this aspect of their teaching. Texts will then be shared that can support pupils’ language development and story-telling skills.

Throughout the day reading and writing will be brought to life through a visual, auditory and kinesthetic approach. Well-loved and brand-new texts will be at the heart of the training and participants will have the opportunity to see how they can be inventively used to really engage pupils, whilst also meeting statutory requirements. Drama techniques, including creating imaginative worlds and role play will be focused upon to support this.

A variety of picture books, photographs, art and objects will be shared that will help pupils develop their vocabulary and early inference skills. Sessions within the day will explore early reading and writing skills using a wide variety of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books, where language acquisition will be a constant theme. Texts to support all areas of learning will be examined and themes that have real impact on the teaching and learning of literacy explored.

To bring the learning to life, Erica will share her school’s inspirational practice.

During the training, participants will be given a wealth of strategies and resources, including a high-quality picture book, that they will be able to take immediately back into the classroom and use to stimulate and invigorate their teaching.
