Irish-born Martin Waddell is a prolific, award winning writer who is most famous for his engaging 'Big Bear, Little Bear' stories. He is also the creator of the classic picture books 'Farmer Duck' and 'Owl Babies.' In 2004, he was awarded the Hans Christian Anderson Award for Children's Literature and has twice won the Smarties Prize.
He also uses the pseudonym Catherine Sefton to write books for older children - primarily ghost stories and mystery fiction. Some of his books, such as 'Starry Night,' 'Frankie's Story' and 'The Beat of the Drum,' deal with the difficulties, anger and pain caused by the political problems in Northern Ireland.
