Date & Time: Friday 11th October 2024 - 9.00am - 3.30pm
Venue: Madeleine Lindley Ltd, Book Centre, Chadderton, Oldham, OL9 9XA
Overview:
This Lower KS2 course will offer you practical advice on how to plan and develop high quality teaching and learning sequences in English that link reading to writing in a meaningful way. A variety of picture and chapter books will be explored, and time will be spent looking at the impact of using age-appropriate non-fiction texts and engaging poetry to ensure a broad and balanced English curriculum. Different forms of visual literacy will also be used to inspire children’s writing.
During the training, you will focus on age-related expectations in writing and be given a wealth of strategies and resources, including resource material, that you will be able to take immediately back into the classroom and use to stimulate and invigorate your literacy teaching. These will include oracy activities, role play and different ways to scaffold writing. Time will also be spent sharing ideas on how to model writing effectively and on how to teach pupils to draft, proof-read and edit their writing so they can grow in confidence and independence.
A high-quality text will also be given, on the day, to illustrate how to develop this effective book-led learning approach.
